Tests were carried out to see what caused the 25-year-old’s sudden death on Monday.
Kent Police have said the post-mortem "proved inconclusive pending the result of toxicology analysis".
"Officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death in order to compile a report for the coroner.
"The result of a toxicology report can take several weeks."
Earlier, Kent County Council said it would wait for the results of the post-mortem before deciding whether there needs to be an inquest into Geldof's sudden death.
The council said in a statement: “A decision on whether there needs to be an inquest depends upon the final results of the post mortem."
It added it could take “some weeks” for the results to come through.

Geldof was found dead at her home in Wrotham, Kent, on Monday.
Kent Police have said the 25-year-old’s death is being treated as “non-suspicious but unexplained and sudden”.
